Find the distance between the following pairs of points (ii) (– 5, 7), (– 1, 3)

Find the distance between the following pairs of points :((ii) (– 5, 7), (– 1, 3)

(-5,7) =(x1,y1)

(-1,3))=(x2,y2)

distance =sqrt{(-1-(-5) )^2 +(3-7)^2} =sqrt(32)=4sqrt(2) units

 

(iii) (a, b), (– a, – b)

 

(a,b) =(x1,y1)

(-a,-b))=(x2,y2)

distance =sqrt{(-a-a)^2 +(-b-b)^2}  =sqrt{4 ( a^2  + b^2 )}

=2sqrt{ ( a^2  + b^2 )}

 

2. Find the distance between the points (0, 0) and (36, 15).

(0,0) =(x1,y1)

(36,15))=(x2,y2)

 

distance ={(36-0)^2 +(15-0)^2}  = sqrt(1521)=39 units
